Sandown 500 takes centre stage as season of endurance begins

Sandown will play host to round 8 of the Motorsport Australia Logitech G Pro Invitational Cup for the first of 2 endurance races set to be held over the coming month.
Drivers will tackle the 3.104 kilometre circuit for 161 laps of action packed racing on Friday the 1st of September, with the goal of becoming a Sandown 500 champion.
Sandown, located in Springvale, Victoria, sits roughly 20km from Melbourne’s city centre. Considered one of Australia’s most well known racing precincts, its bumpy fast natured layout provides numerous challenges for drivers to overcome, including the turn 2-3 chicane which is pivotal to lap time.
Sandown is predominantly a power circuit, with its long front & back straights also providing an interesting challenge for drivers to tackle as they search for a balance between having a strong handling car through the corners, vs a car capable of being the fastest down the “drag strips”, maximising straight line speed.

The inclusion of co drivers add an extra variable to proceedings at Sandown, with the likes of real world racers Shane Van Gisbergen, James Golding, Andre Heimgartner, Cooper Murray, Brad Vaughan & Anton De Pasquale all making themselves available for the endurance cup. Other notable mentions Include 2022 Bathurst podium finisher Corey Shepherd, Fawzan El Nabi & Griffin Gardner to name a few.
Co Drivers will be expected to complete a minimum lap count of 54 laps, as well as both drivers having to adhere to the 80 lap drive time limit over the course of 500 kilometres.
Split qualifying will also feature for the first time in the 2023 Motorsport Australia Logitech G Pro Invitational Cup at Sandown, with drivers to be broken up into 2 groups for the 35 minute qualifying session. Qualifying groups will be determined off championship position.
